Permaculture Weekend on the Sunshine Coast

PRACTICAL PERMIE WEEKEND
Robin Wheeler is hosting a PC weekend with great workshops on the weekend of June 10, 11. More details >http://www.ediblelandscapes.ca/

Throw out the theory and pie charts! It’s time to get down in the garden and touch, taste, smell and handle plant and building materials so that we can more easily assimilate Permaculture concepts into our daily lives. Come and meet our team of facilitators, who were chosen for their deep knowledge and wealth of very local (lower mainland BC) experience.

The Practical Permie weekend will be held at three sites in Roberts Creek, B.C. Camping and access to nearby Bed and Breakfast are available. Meals can be ordered or your own food can be prepared on site. Please bring your own drinking water if you can carry it, and specialty foods if required.

Our goal will be to expand Permaculture experiences and to increase networking between the Permie community.

Peak Oil, How would you prepare for this?

When possed this question on 02/27/2006, Ken Deffeyes, a former Shell Oil geologist who is now a professor emeritus of geosciences at Princeton University, had the following to say:

"What I'd like to have is farmland on volcanic rich soils so that it doesn't require fertilizer. And I need a place where there's enough rainfall. Maybe this could be in Oregon. Owning something that's relatively energy independent and supplies food for the survivors to eat would be the sweetest target."

The State of Our Seed Supply

At our Feb 2006 meeting, Sarah Belanger gave an excellent presentation on current issues with the availability of quality, regionally aclimatized seeds, and who controls the supply. Here it is in pdf format:
