The Down to Earth Building Bee (DTEBB) was formed in 1996 to help develop proactive alternatives that will lead towards ending the  clearcutting of the ancient temperate rainforests of the Pacific Northwest.

The DTEBB is currently working with the Stanley Park Ecology Society   and the Vancouver Parks Board on the building of a small cob demonstration structure in Stanley Park. The project will commence building in Spring 2004.

By building using cob, we hope to spark the creativity and to show the possibility of ecologically appropriate houses.

cob provides a proactive solution to many  environmental problems. In particular, cob uses far less wood than conventional construction and would help reduce our over reliance on timber products.

Environmental groups have succeeded in drawing attention to the decimation of ancient forests for paper production, however,  a wood reduction campaign is not complete without drawing attention to the 2x4 and other wasteful uses of ancient rainforests.

cob  compliments existing environmental campaigns while also instilling a sense of hope that there are inspiring ways of meeting the challenge of creating a sustainable culture.

The DTEBB worked with the Nuxalk nation in Bella Coola in the building of a cob cafe. This project offered a unique experience bringing together a diversity of people to build this cafe in the Nuxalk community

Here in Vancouver , the Down to Earth Building Bee created a small meditation house . As well as  hands-on work we also host educational events as part of our community outreach in vancouver.  We are also compiling a comprehensive list of people and resources related to natural building here in British Columbia.
